Emma's Day...

Today the children marched
Down grand avenues in the seat of power
And it seemed that with each step
They grew younger in years and old in wisdom

The tenderness of their years, the depth of fears
The wet-eyed smile in the face of harsh wind
Brought the power from within,
it is within all
To reach for a perfection of time and spirit
When we connect with the self and with the other
When we finally see, the space between us
Is the place of peace, and the warm embrace of Love

Authors of Confusion

Into my childhood ears, wisdom poured
From the lips that held the most precious breath
The voice that carried a wisdom from then unto then, and even now
The tones of truths held dear, re-echo, resound
Reappear as that which cannot be long hidden.

Time reaps and returns like the grasp of the seas
That take and keep all things- until returned to the light.
The proof of what was, and that it has ever been,
Held in deeps and keep of the ages, but never gone.

God is not the author of confusion…

In the mysteries of eternities,
there is clarity in the mind of a child;
purity lies in the warm heart of truth
as age turns the young green leaves to gold.
Honesty is abundant like the sun
free to fill the eyes of all that welcome warmth,
and  so too is choice--
the voice within that quietly submits
to the noisy world.

As time molds and shapes us
Like trees agreed with wind and rain
To stand thus; we yet fulfill
The fruits of seasons. The sweetness
Of the inner place can fall from its natural place
Of inherent reflection, a fallen grace, buried
Beneath a worldly gold, and thus
Inscribed, a soul lost in the midst of life.

Tossed in chaos; the inner strife divided
The mansion of many rooms dissolves
Unfound, among rumors of crows in a defiant fog.
Defiant, even unto the burning thaw of dawn. Reborn
Are they now, disciples of the Lost, and chain bound followers,
Dedications of the  authors of confusion.

The Martian water

In an age committed
To petty conquest, so we
Who dream among stars are captive
Bound by the gravity of greed.
But knowledge grows
The need to be what we might
And the sight of the Red Planet so near
In bright summer night, we feel we might
Reach out and touch it
In time, we discover that in the great out-there
are the things that create life; this red dust world
has a history rife with mystery. Signs of watery worlds
once, and what used to be
Still might, be hidden beneath eons and red dust.

Ohh, the ache in the soul, the explorer’s breath
Rises from within, the need to be there
It rises without fault, and conscience suffers too
An unquenchable urge to touch…
The Martian water.

her finest fur

the woman wore fur
green like cedar and
long like soft pine and spruce
it would blend with the season
where summer spawns layers
beneath the canopy

I watched her make
the splendid garment, and she
made sure of every stitch, tied with green
into deeper green, and the drape was exact
on limbs, as  these evergreen covers
move from living limbs to limbs she would
forever keep among the living.

When done, she undrapes and
the fur coat falls at her feet; smiling,
she retrieves it and hands it away

A gift to a man, heading back to the front
for a hero of Donetsk, she wears and then un-bears
her favorite lush fir; it may save him
as he tries to save his country.

______________________________
I watched a woman make a camouflage suit for her husband; a soldier' in the Ukraine army. He will wear this to cover himself, and he will wear this fir coat as he fights for his nation's future.  Amidst the swarm of charges and counter charges- as Russia tries to cover-up its naked military aggression-  the propaganda of its corrupt politics of greed and vengeance fills the news media.  In the invasion, many thousands of innocent people suffer. Many brave young men and women in Ukraine risk all. So meaningful then, the fir coat.

je suis...

When men pretend to greatness
as if to be gods, they diminish life
we do not worship the smoking gun
we simply fear it and dread
the fracture of reason that stands behind it.

There is a poetry of grief, and it sounds dull chords
like muffled drums and slow steps to fresh mounds;
dust of stars are we, and like them, we burn bright and die.

We have fire within and send out our special light;
it is life - a glory and celebration.
It is the precious gift and we know it
by sounds of laughter when we hold it, and the
slow roll of tears when it passes.

When men pretend to greatness
and wear the mantles they make
the petty godliness they create...they can only
make life vanish; they become invisible to the eyes
for we forget fear, it moves away
like the burn of sun through clouds.

We forget makers of fear...they are as the dust
of forgotten dust; we remember the joys
and the gifts of happiness.
Fear flies in an eye blink, it does not keep us;
for We are eternally bound
 to those we Love

a possibility of Grace

maybe the world did end
one in which guns make Angels.
Perhaps the huge asteroid no one saw
smacked into this remarkable blue gem
and set it to boil and burn

did these alternative realities occur-
within each moment is every possibility,
a dimension like chance, and we
have perished, or live in last agonies
fed to rodents and roaches; or
feeding upon each other
the animal self emerged from
civility, naked turtles

or perhaps a prayer found
the possibility of Grace
and the asteroid floated by
the agonies mere dread
and the children who became Angels
saw us change, from refugees of fear
into creatures of love...for even
such a great sea of change-- begins with a single drop;
a tear fallen into emptiness

warm boots

no violent  crime in NYC today
a day like none any could recall
when the sirens flared , red lights flashed
for ease of movement in traffic
riding among a sea of yellow, accustomed
to alarm in radio voices, the edge of the edgy day
dulled by passage, coffee and sweets, and passage
no violence today.
There were harsh words on airwaves
right about this and wrong about that
Brooklyn against the heroes of MSG
the gridiron titans, and destiny; Yankees
all in passionate NewYork-ese but not
the raised hand, no angry turn of no return
no violent crime in NYC today

I thought it was a sign,
thought to go look for Jesus up in Harlem

One policeman went viral, warm boots
for a shoeless man, so cold these streets
so warm one heart…then watched by  many more;
this touch like Jesus in midtown Manhattan

no violent  crime today
NYC …then the world.
